Standard Dry Van Containers: The most common 20ft, 40ft, and 45ft ocean or 53ft domestic containers. They carry non-perishable consumer goods, electronics, textiles, and palletized retail freight.
Refrigerated (Reefer) Containers: Temperature-controlled units requiring specialized generator sets (gen-sets) attached to the chassis. They haul perishable items like fresh produce, frozen foods, meat, and pharmaceuticals.
Out of Gauge (OOG): Freight that exceeds the standard dimensions of a container in height, width, or length. This cargo cannot be loaded into a traditional box and is typically secured onto specialized container frames like flat racks.
Open Top Containers: Containers equipped with a removable tarpaulin roof instead of a solid top. They are designed for heavy, bulky machinery or raw materials that can only be loaded from above using cranes.
Flat Rack Containers: Units featuring folding or fixed end-walls but no side walls or roof. They are utilized for oversized shipments like industrial boilers, large vehicles, military hardware, or heavy construction equipment.
Tank Containers (ISO Tanks): Cylindrical stainless-steel tanks built inside a standard intermodal container frame. They transport bulk liquids, gases, food-grade oils, syrups, or chemical products safely across rail and sea lines.
Hazardous Materials (Hazmat): Any cargo officially classified by the DOT as flammable, toxic, corrosive, explosive, or otherwise hazardous. Transporting these loads requires specialized driver endorsements, specific truck placarding, and precise route planning.
High-Value / High-Security: Freight that carries an elevated risk of theft, such as luxury goods, high-end electronics, or pharmaceutical narcotics. These loads frequently mandate strict driver security protocols, GPS tracking, and locked high-security container seals.
